Recycling

Once a week - on Fridays 

In Kirkland, the collection of recyclable materials takes place once a week on Fridays, starting at 7:00 am. The recycling wheeled bin must be placed at the curb after 6 p.m. Thursday evening or before 7:00 am Friday morning and put away before the end of the day on Friday.

Your wheeled bin is the property of the Town of Kirkland and must remain on the premises when you move. The collection of recyclable materials requires that the wheeled bin be properly positioned, by respecting the rules set out in the User Guide. Also, please ensure that the bin is placed on your property and not on the street, so it does not obstruct the street sweeper or the snow plows. Otherwise, the streets cannot be cleaned properly.

What can go in the bin?

PAPER AND CARDBOARD

Accepted:

  • Newspaper, pamphlets, magazines
  • Books and telephone directories
  • Paper, envelopes, paper bags
  • Egg cartons
  • Cardboard rolls
  • Non-metallic wrapping paper
  • Milk and juice cartons
  • Cardboard boxes
  • Cereal boxes
  • Tissue boxes

Important :

  • Wash all containers
  • Flatten cardboard boxes and fold them small enough to fit in your blue bin
  • Paper and cardboard must not be soiled (grease, food)
  • Paper and cardboard are recyclable even when wet

Refused:

  • Tissues
  • Absorbent paper
  • Carbon paper
  • Waxed paper
  • Plasticized paper and cardboard
  • Binders
  • Soiled cardboard
  • Cellophane
  • Diapers
  • Padded envelopes

PLASTIC

Accepted:

  • All plastic containers identified with codes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 7
  • Soft-drink bottles
  • Water bottles
  • Plant pots
  • Plastic grocery bags
  • Product packaging
  • Plastic bags (Rinsed milk bags and pouches, frozen vegetables bags, bread bags, sandwich bags, dry cleaning bags)
  • Shampoo bottles
  • Food containers: peanut butter, margarine, vinegar, etc.
  • Cleaning product containers

Important :  Wash all containers

Refused:

  • Engine oil or solvent containers (even if empty)
  • Toys
  • Plastic containers identified with code # 6
  • Plastic tools
  • Potato chip or cereal bags
  • Compostable plastic bags
  • Toothpaste tube

GLASS

Accepted: All glass containers of any color
Important :  Wash all containers

Refused:

  • Light bulb
  • Crystal
  • Small appliances
  • Mirror
  • Neon
  • Porcelain
  • Pottery
  • Dishes
  • Window glass

METAL

Accepted:

  • Tin cans
  • Soft-drink cans
  • Aluminum foil and plates
  • Lids and seals

Refused:

  • Pots and pans
  • Paint or solvent containers
  • Cake mould
  • Broken tools
  • Pressurized containers
  • Bolts, nails, screws
